I hope you all had a healthy, rejuvenating holiday break. As we approach the New Year, there remains a great deal of uncertainty in many facets of our lives. One of my New Year’s resolutions was to focus on the things I can control because there are so many that I can’t.

With that in mind, I hope that you will join me next Tuesday night, January 12th at 7pm, for a tri-school meeting to discuss keeping our kids safe online. On the panel will be Rita Fabi, Havens parent and former Online Security Director at Facebook, and Lisa Rager, Beach parent and security expert at Tesla, will lead a discussion about what parents should look out for and tools we can use to reduce these risks when our kids are online. In advance of our conversation, here is a list of parent resources. Also, please complete this very brief survey about your specific concerns about kids and online safety so that we can tailor the conversation accordingly. Finally, here is the Zoom link so you can join the conversation next Tuesday.

The always-popular HDC poker night is this Friday night at 8pm. The event will be virtual this year meaning that you can participate from any locale. Contrary to perceptions, the event is not only for dads; it is open to all Havens parents and members of the community. And, if you are a beginner (like me) there will be a tutorial to get us up to speed. If you cannot start right at 8pm, that is ok too. There will be opportunities to jump into the game until 9:30/45. Sign up now!

During these incredibly difficult times when we do not have the normal opportunities to connect at drop off, pick up, or on the sidelines of sports games, we are often not aware of the struggles members of our school community are experiencing. In an effort to support one another, we will be starting meal trains (and other forms of community support) again. Do you need a meal train or do you know of another Havens family that would benefit from a few warm meals dropped off at their door? Or, are you or a friend in need of another form of support? If so, please reach out to either me, havensparentboard@gmail.com, or Cortney Allen, our HPC Family Caring Board Chair, cortney.allen@gmail.com.

All Slack channels have been updated to reflect current teacher assignments. If your child changed classes in December, please ensure that your Slack channels reflect your child’s current teacher assignment so that you receive information and notifications in a timely manner. If you have any questions, please reach out to Shonnon Schey, havenscommunications@gmail.com.

Onward and upward!
