First day of school - in the books!

The masks could not hide the happy faces and joyful energy (and maybe a few teary-eyed parents) on the Havens campus yesterday. We hope your kiddos had an awesome time and we are so grateful to the teachers and staff for giving us all the “feels” of what a classic first day of school at Havens is like. It was also nice to see so many people this week at the classroom walkthroughs and Back to School Coffee. Thank you to our Family Engagement, Hospitality, and Merchandise committees and to all of the HPC volunteers who helped make those events the warm and welcoming success that they were!

Now that the Havens school year gears are turning, there is work to be done!

Please read through below for important updates and volunteer opportunities.

  • Lice Checks are being offered this Friday from 3:30pm-6:30pm outside Ellen Driscoll on the Havens campus. More info is below. Sign-up to help us “stop the spread” of this other (much more common in school-aged children) epidemic.

  • This is a preventative effort offered annually at the start of school. There are no current reported cases of lice in the school.

  • LAST WEEK to Sign up, Read and Donate to the Summer Read-a-Thon

  • The HPC Summer Read-a-Thon will wrap up on Monday (August 16), but it's still not too late to join! Click here to sign up and easily send donation requests to friends and family. All funds raised will be used to purchase books and supplies for Havens classrooms.

  • For families who are participating: thank you SO much for your support and congratulations to your kids for all their reading! Now is the time to follow up on fundraising requests and update page totals through the PledgeStar platform. We can't wait to announce the names of the top readers and fundraisers and to let you know which class will earn a popsicle party. In the last week the 1st graders surpassed the 2nd graders as the top earning class... can another grade give them a run for their money?!

  • School Picture Days are next week!

  • August 19: K, TK AM, Third and Fourth grade

  • August 20: First, Second, Fifth and TK PM

  • https://mugsyclicks.com/FrankCHavensSchool is the link to our school page, where you can create a MugsyClicks account and be notified when pictures are ready to be viewed.

  • The first Havens Parents Club meeting of the year is next Tuesday, August 17th at 7:00pm online. Join us! Link in the school calendar or below:

Passcode: 295344

  • Volunteer! Interested in becoming a room parent or hosting a grade level parent party and haven’t signed up yet? Contact havenscommunications@gmail.com

  • Room Parents are chosen via lottery and communicate information to classroom parents weekly.

  • Grade Level Parent Parties help us kick off the school year, and we can continue to have them on a rolling basis throughout the year if there is interest. They can be hosted in a backyard, or organized to meet at a park on a day and time convenient for most (nights/weekends).

  • Harvest Festival is September 19th! Stay tuned for more ways to participate in and volunteer for that soon!

  • Can’t stop thinking about that new Havens logo hoodie? Good news! Orders can be placed online and made available for pick-up. Shop Havens!

  • More information on volunteering for lunch service, and enrolling in ASE classes, below.

Happy first week of school!
