Appreciating Havens

There are so many reasons to be appreciative of our special school community, and one that has become increasingly relevant as of late are those individuals on staff who go right to work if someone at Havens tests positive for Covid-19. The contact tracing that begins immediately is a tremendous job that also needs to be done quickly; we’d like to recognize our administrators, support staff, and nurses for working long and late hours to keep our student population as safe as possible, and acknowledge the teachers that pivoted with precision to distance learning. We’d also like to thank the Hospitality and Family Caring committees for delivering flowers to the teachers and goodie boxes to those that worked the “front lines” of the two class quarantines, on behalf of our school. We also appreciate all of those in our community who have supported them in different ways - we are caring, we are courageous, and we have integrity - indeed!

The appreciation continues on to all of you who have joined the HPC - thank you! Joining the parents club allows us to continue to foster community and partnership at our school, and we encourage you to visit the Piedmont Store if you haven’t already to join HPC, support our school’s teacher and staff appreciation fund, and contribute to the various other funds that help ensure HPC can support the school in all the ways that we do.

Part of supporting our school and building community is to show our school spirit and we are happy to announce that “Fun Friday Spirit Days” will be coming back in September! More details to come, but if you’d like to pick up school swag, take note the Merchandise Committee will be outside Ellen Driscoll at the noon dismissal next Thursday ready with their card readers to help you pick up the newest Havens gear.

One of the easiest ways to continue to support Havens passively is by shopping at Amazon Smile! Please go to, choose “Frank C Havens School Parents Club.” You will need to set it up on each device (computer, phone, etc.) separately. Then, just make sure you are visiting when shopping and a percentage of your purchase(s) will come back to support all things Havens. Thank you!

Finally, parents - we appreciate you! Particularly those of the quarantined classes over the past two weeks. We can all relate to the challenges of unforeseen circumstances, and we thank you for leading us into the year with the understanding, compassion, and flexibility that you have exemplified.

Thank you,

April and Val
