December 3, 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

The Winter Festival is Havens’ annual family event where children can participate in holiday activities and join ways to support our broader community. It’s free for the whole family and includes fun make & take home arts and crafts activities, like make your own penguin and celebrating different holiday traditions. In addition, there will be several SERVES opportunities. Together let's help make a difference in Piedmont and our larger Bay Area Community!

SERVES activities include:

  • Holiday card and decoration making for senior citizens at Grand Lake Community Gardens

  • Silly socks activity: Come decorate a paper sock - make it colorful and fun, classic and elegant or silly! Bring new socks or donate $5 (supports Hamilton Families in San Francisco) and be entered in a drawing to win a prize!

  • World wish tree activity: Make a wish for our community (local, state, national or global) for a better 2022 and hang it on our tree to be displayed.

  • Clothing and toy drive to support The Closet at Bridges Academy at Melrose (OUSD) - please bring gently used clothing and shoes (all sizes: infant, children and adults) and toys.  We are focusing on warm winter and rain clothing and festive holiday clothing. Virtual option available - the SERVES website will be updated with drop-off locations soon.  (Please no stained, ripped, out of style or clothing in poor condition - we want the kids to feel good in what they wear!  Please no toys or games that are broken or have missing parts, no stuffed animals or plushies unless they are brand new with tags or in their original box.)

  • Virtual options available! If you are not attending Winter Festival, holiday cards and decorations for senior citizens and clothing and toys for The Closet may be dropped Monday, December 13.  Drop-off locations (homes throughout Piedmont) will be posted on the SERVES website by Friday, December 3.

We are also looking for volunteers to support set up, tabling and clean up.  Please contact Sarah Eisemon if you are interested in planning or volunteering (put Havens SERVES in the subject line). Also, if you have older elementary, middle or high school students who would like to volunteer, please send them our way!

The 14th Annual Havens Poker Night on Friday, January 7 from 6-11pm at Piedmont Veterans Hall!

This is Havens Dads Club’s signature fundraiser for the year; all net proceeds will be donated to Havens Elementary. In previous years, the proceeds funded our new playscape area (unveiling soon!), playground equipment, new Chromebooks for remote learning, water bottle stations, and staff

Buy your tickets on Eventbrite before Dec 1st to get Early Bird pricing!  Learn more about Havens Dads Club here.

Welcome Back!

We hope everyone had a restful break appreciating all of the things we have to be thankful for in our own lives, as well as for our Havens’ teachers, staff, and that our kids' attention spans are occupied back in the classrooms this week.

With that in mind, please take a moment during this busy time of year to support the Teacher and Staff Appreciation Fund collected through the Piedmont Store to recognize your teacher, as well as all Havens staff, with holiday and end-of-year gifts.

Speaking of a busy time of year, help us kick off the season by joining us in person at Winterfest this Friday. Make a quick pit stop at Mulberry’s or the park after school (check the lost and found while you’re at it!), then stop by Ellen Driscoll to make a festive craft, help support our community organizations, and connect with other families. More information/ways to donate are below, and merchandise will be on hand selling the adorable soft and cuddly Havens Huskies as well as new items like bracelet and keychain making kits with a special holiday gift-giving opportunity to buy one, give one to a child in need.

Hope to see you there!

Students are encouraged to wear Havens gear or the color purple on Fridays going forward. Yay Havens!

Thank you,

April and Val
